Notes on Educational Tools and Products. Educational tools and products are used in classrooms and other educational settings to teach specific lessons or elements related to a specific discipline. Examples of scientific educational tools and products include physics experiment instruments, wave generators, and electronic breadboards for making electronic circuits. Educational tools and products are very useful for teaching scientific fundamentals to students. Specially-designed educational products allow students to try out their own equipment or experiments, giving them firsthand experience of the methods used in the field. For example, students can use an electronic breadboard to learn how to set up and test an electronic circuit. The breadboard is a flat empty circuit board with many holes in it for plugging in various electronic components without the need for soldering. Underneath the board are a series of metal strips which serve as connections for the components. Other educational tools and products include wave generator or oscilloscope software that is used to analyze sound waves or other signals. Educational software is a common tool used in the classroom today, and can include materials for learning a foreign language or conducting chemistry experiments. Educational tools and products include other educational materials and workshops that are designed to immerse students in a particular topic. Workshops can be as simple as a day-long visit to a facility or as complex as an intensive course of study of a certain discipline. Educational science- or technology-based workshops are designed for particular age groups and are often conducted in conjunction with a large organization, such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Special educational tools and products include those used to teach students how to conduct experiments, or how to test specific laws of physics. A physics education tool may include software used to conduct force and acceleration experiments, or a kit to build a telescope, or components to build and test the stability of structures or strength of materials.

Notes on Educational and Training Software. Educational and training software is used in applications such as distance learning, online, training, and more specific programs such as equipment training and support. Educational and training software may be Internet (Web-based) software, software that is downloaded and run on a local computer system, or software purchased and distributed over networked systems for educating large numbers of users. Distance learning software is a common form of Web-based software. This type of educational and training software is commonly used for educating adult working students, as well as by locally accredited schools, to provide information and practical skills to users. It often involves a learning pathway with linked assignments and tests graded by a computer to provide immediate feedback. Corporations can use online software training to advance employee skills. This type of software is sometimes referred to as computer based training (CBT). CBT simulation is often “task-based”. Examples might include teaching an employee how to add new users to a network, or flight emergency simulations for commercial airline pilots. Specific components of educational and training software can also involve training large user populations through a network. For example, high schools and universities commonly use educational software to teach entire modules of material. This allows students to access such educational and training software material quickly and at any time that is convenient, rather than confining study to specific hours. Universities find this particularly useful in material that contains a large amount of information, such as during engineering training. It is also useful when conducting computer software training, where users can actually utilize models of software applications and are able to make errors that will not damage or corrupt critical systems. Educational and training software is provided by different vendors specializing in such products. Some vendors focus on particular training areas or disciplines, while others specialize more in training-delivery technologies. Prices and licensing depends largely upon the type of software being utilized, and whether it is controlled through the Internet by a particular vendor or purchased for download, installation, and use by groups of people. |
